Where it all began – My first anime

You can call this post my “origin story” because this post is about what anime brought me into the word of anime. I’ve probably watched about 20+ anime so far and I know that the number will only increase overtime because I love anime so much and I’m a big nerd.

You’re probably wondering what the first anime I ever watched was. Well like everyone from my generation I watched stuff like Pokémon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh, but personally I don’t consider them anime or the shows that got me into anime. The first anime I ever watched was Naruto and I don’t mean Naruto Shippuden, I mean the original Naruto. I can still remember being in my room at 9 pm, sitting in my X-rocker chair and watching Team 7 fight in The Forest of Death against Orochimaru on my T.V. that had the big ass on it. You know what one I’m talking about right? Not a flat screen but the T.V that had the extended back and weighed like 50 pounds.

Naruto is my all-time favorite anime (will do a review on later), it just holds so much nostalgia for me, I got so invested in this anime and manga. I got so obsessed with this anime that I knew what time it was going to be airing and I would stay up late and watched the subbed version usually twice, so I can get everything from the episode. I would read ahead in the manga and be up to date with that also and still watch the anime even though I knew what was going to happen.

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden have a very special place in my heart. I never missed an episode from the anime or chapter from the manga, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried several times throughout the entirety of the series. I just love the characters from Naruto and Sasuke, to Guy and Lee, to Garaa and all the villains like Madara, Obitio and the Akatsuki.

This was the first anime I ever watched, and Naruto is easily my favorite anime of all time.

My question today is what was your “gateway anime/book”? What got you started watching or reading?

I hope you enjoyed my post, and as always, have a great day!

My first ever anime was Sword Art Online and to this day it’s still my favourite! I only got into anime last year though, so i have a lot more still to discover. I know Naruto is a classic but it’s also so long which is why I haven’t embarked on it yet :p I want to though!

The first season of Sword Art Online was really good! You would probably like “Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon”. I would highly recommend Naruto though!

I was one of those people who still liked the second season too 😛 It was different but still good to me. I will check out that one – I’ve never heard of it before.

  3. I love these aniime topics so typing with my non injured hand to answer. I watched all the anime on Cartoon network like Sailormoon and DBZ, but gateway is Inuyasha since that’s the first one I watched ahead in Japanese. But if we’re talking when I started going to cons and using MAL then it’s probably Nana.

  4. 🤔 This got me thinking. The first anime I watched was Voltes V and Daimos. 😐 It was part of that evening anime time slot this local tv channel had. Although I can’t actually recall both anime. What hooked me was Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon.🤔 Then the rest is history.😂😅

Yu Yu Hakusho is a great anime and I will be sure to check it out! And yes I watched Naruto alone, fillers and all. I watched Naruto on T.V but then when I found it online I was binge watching it Naruto and catching up on Shippuden and kept up-to-date with the show until the end.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried a decent bit watching Naruto. The end of the actual cannon and Naruto’s request of Iruka at the very end had me balling my eyes out.

      1. Oh I cried so many times. When Naruto was eating his ice cream on the park bench and he was crying cuz of that one huge thing that happened – I was dead. And there was no hope for me when he asked Iruka. Oh geez in tearing up now😂😭
