Why I consider myself an off-brand nerd

This is going to be a little bit of an off topic post because it won’t about an anime or anything but for all of you to get to know me a little better! So sit back, relax and let’s get started!

I’ve been telling people for years that I am no ordinary nerd, that I consider myself an off-brand nerd and then I usually get a confused or quizzical look and then I have to explain what I mean when I say I ‘m an off-brand nerd. So, that’s what I’m going to do today! I’m going to explain why I am an off-brand nerd.

Let’s start with the nerd side of me. Well, the nerdy side comes from my love of anime and manga (as you all already know), I love video games; console and PC, I love playing D&D (I have 2 pairs of D&D dice right next to me as I am typing this), I enjoy magic tricks, I love watching tricks, learning to perform new tricks, breaking down tricks and the amazement I get from watching and seeing tricks for the first time and the amazement and confusion in peoples faces when I perform tricks as well (ask Kristina about our first date XD), I’m in college studying to be a computer program and video game developer, and I can also solve several different sized and shaped Rubik’s Cubes, I have solved a regular 3×3 Rubik’s Cube in 27 seconds. This is the nerdy side but there is another side to me.

This is where the off-brand part comes into play. I live in the gym, I workout 5 days a week with my best/favorite lift is the deadlift where I max out at 315lbs, I love tattoos, I have 3 currently and have 8+ more currently planned, which includes several nerdy tattoos, I am the occasional marijuana smoker, I like to go out with friends and drink and party, I love traveling, with my goal in life to see the whole world, I listen to a lot of rap music, with my favorite artists being Logic, Tech n9ne, Futuristic, Joyner Lucas (I hate today’s mumble rapping), and I love just going out in general.

So that’s why I consider myself an off-brand nerd. I love anime and D&D and I like to pick heavy things up just to move them a little than put them down. You could say im unique.

Today’s question is, what makes you unique? Take that as you will.

Thank you for reading my post, and as always, have a great day!

I think in that case I might be an off-brand nerd? I mean, I love reading and anime and all the geeky stuff that I do (no gaming though, for me I’m afraid.) But at the same time I love workouts and yoga and spend just as much time doing that and focusing on clean eating as I do reading! I also used to play basketball and love partying and dancing with my friends 😛

  2. I definitely get what you mean with this, and I tend to consider myself an off brand nerd too. For example, I’m more of a bookish nerd than a video game nerd, and I’m super interested in history (I consider myself an ‘old-fashioned nerd’, haha!), but I also have green hair, tattoos and love heavy metal music. So I suppose I’m some kind of emo nerd? I’m not sure, but I’m definitely weird! It’s great though that everyone is so unique, and has such a mix of different interests, especially when those interests can seem so opposed to each other.
    Great post! 🙂

  3. I’m part Asian and don’t look it. ⛩ In fact, most think I’m Scottish or Norwegian. We are judged so much on our looks, that in today’s world I can’t possibly be accepted as Asian. Can’t we accept everyone is unique and love that! ❤️❤️❤️

  4. Ah yes.. the coin trick I was so puzzled to and couldnt figure out ahah x)
you forgot how you showed me your rubiks cube and how fast you can solve them; an amazing way to get to a woman’s heart it seem, eh? ahaha

“I like to pick heavy things up just to move them a little than put them down.” .. loving how you said that 😂

I totally understand this ‘Off brand’ part of the nerdiness. I don’t fit into the regular nerd category myself I guess. I usually get this weird look when I show my nerdy self to others, because I dont’ come across as one at the first glance, especially since I am an extrovert and a very outdoorsy person, which is portrayed as a big no-no for the mainstream nerds.

    So goodluck on being you!

What makes me unique??? Well that’s an excellent question as we are all unique? I think it would be my brain. I am fast. Like real fast to learn and adapt but …I hat bragging so just forget OK? 😉
