Why I consider myself an off-brand nerd

This is going to be a little bit of an off topic post because it won’t about an anime or anything but for all of you to get to know me a little better! So sit back, relax and let’s get started!

Dragon Ball Super – Tournament of Power Arc (Part 2)

Where it all began – My first anime

You can call this post my “origin story” because this post is about what anime brought me into the word of anime. I’ve probably watched about 20+ anime so far and I know that the number will only increase overtime because I love anime so much and I’m a big nerd.

You’re probably wondering what the first anime I ever watched was. Well like everyone from my generation I watched stuff like Pokémon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh, but personally I don’t consider them anime or the shows that got me into anime. The first anime I ever watched was Naruto and I don’t mean Naruto Shippuden, I mean the original Naruto. I can still remember being in my room at 9 pm, sitting in my X-rocker chair and watching Team 7 fight in The Forest of Death against Orochimaru on my T.V. that had the big ass on it. You know what one I’m talking about right? Not a flat screen but the T.V that had the extended back and weighed like 50 pounds.

Naruto is my all-time favorite anime (will do a review on later), it just holds so much nostalgia for me, I got so invested in this anime and manga. I got so obsessed with this anime that I knew what time it was going to be airing and I would stay up late and watched the subbed version usually twice, so I can get everything from the episode. I would read ahead in the manga and be up to date with that also and still watch the anime even though I knew what was going to happen.

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden have a very special place in my heart. I never missed an episode from the anime or chapter from the manga, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried several times throughout the entirety of the series. I just love the characters from Naruto and Sasuke, to Guy and Lee, to Garaa and all the villains like Madara, Obitio and the Akatsuki.

This was the first anime I ever watched, and Naruto is easily my favorite anime of all time.

My question today is what was your “gateway anime/book”? What got you started watching or reading?

I hope you enjoyed my post, and as always, have a great day!

Dragon Ball Super – Tournament of Power Arc (Part 1)

Dragon Ball Super is an anime that debuted in the summer of 2015, which is the squeal to the hit anime Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Super takes place in the 10-year time skip that happens between Goku killing Kid Buu with the spirit bomb and Goku fighting Uub (Majin Buu’s reincarnation).

I’m going to say this right now; this post will contain SPOILERS. So, if you don’t want this arc to be spoiled for you then I suggest you click away now, don’t worry, I understand. Have a great day!

The Tournament of Power arc (also known as the Universe Survival arc) is the fifth and final arc of the Dragon Ball Super anime. The Tournament of Power planned by Zeno begins, with eight of the twelve universes partaking—with each universe having a team of 10 fighters who battle alongside each other. The arc features continuous debuts of elites from each universe. However, this also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction. If a team has all 10 of their members eliminated, then the universe they come from will be destroyed immediately. The last universe standing gets a wish from the Super Dragon Balls (Basically the regular Dragon Balls but they are the size of a planet and they have no limit).

Now, I’m starting this by saying that this is my all-time favorite arc in Dragon Ball Super, and I’m going to explain why through each thing I talk about.

The first part of this arc is Goku find members for his team for the tournament. Of course, there is Goku will be fighting and Vegeta took some convincing because his daughter wasn’t born yet but then comes around to join but who else will there be? Goku first recruits Gohan and Piccolo, at this point Gohan is very weak from not training, so Gohan and Piccolo go and train so that Gohan can get his fighting sense back and get and for them both to get stronger for the tournament.

The next set of fighters Goku recruits is Master Roshi, and a character we haven’t seen since the Resurrection of F arc, Tien. I know what you are thinking, these characters aren’t that strong, how are they supposed to compete in a tournament against strong opponents from other universes? Well, Master Roshi is a martial arts master and start training martial arts at a young age (he is currently over 300 years old now). Tien has always been training hard and at this point in the show, he has his own martial arts school where he teaches many students. So, they are both qualified for this tournament. This brings us to six out of the 10 characters needed for the tournament.

The next fighters Goku gathers is Krillin and his wife, Android 18. While on the way to their house Goku runs into Buu, who now has a new form (skinny Buu) and agrees to fight so he can use his wish to help Mr. Satan (awwwww, cute!). Krillin and 18 agree to join the tournament so that they can keep their daughter safe. This brings our count to 9, who will be the last contestant?

While at Krillin and 18’s house Goku asks 18 if she knows where Android 17 is! At this point, we haven’t seen Android 17 since the Cell Saga of Dragon Ball Z (besides for the brief second in the kid Buu saga). This is the first time that Goku and 17 met for the first time because back in Z Goku was away when 17 was around, so they never met until this moment. Android 17 agrees to fight under the condition that his wish is that he gets a giant cruise ship so that he can use to take his family around the world on.

This makes 10 fighters for the tournament! but, in typical Dragon Ball style, something happens. Like what happened in the universe 6 arc, Buu falls asleep and won’t be awake for the tournament so Goku must find a new member.

This part of the arc surprised me because Goku got someone that no one was expecting, Goku goes and finds Fortuneteller Baba (another throwback character), and he asks her to give Frieza 24 hours on of life so he can fight in the tournament. Goku and Frieza both must fight off enemies from another universe who are trying to take out contenders before the tournament starts. Frieza agrees to fight if he gets revived after the tournament is over. Goku and Frieza get into a fight after this and both end of knocking each other out. They bring Frieza back to the group. Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Android 17, Android 18, Master Roshi, and Tien, these are the 10 participants who are fighting for the survival of Universe 7.

Just a quick side note, this tournament is supposed to be the strongest fighters across the universes fighting against each other and universe 7 found all their participants on Earth? Like, they didn’t search very hard, but I digress.

Now that universe 7 has gathered their full team for the tournament they gather together and get teleported to the world of the void, which has nothing in it besides the fighting arena. As the other 70 fighters from different universes are coming in no one is really paying much attention until universe 11 shows up. Once they show up it gives us the old school Dragon Ball Z feel when a strong enemy appears with everyone acting surprised about how strong they are, especially the leader of the universe 11 team, Jiren the Grey, the man who is said to be stronger than the universe 11 God of Destruction.

Will Goku and his friends survive this tournament? What foes will they have to face and what obstacles will they have to overcome? The tournament of power is getting ready to commence!

Another side note, the tournament is supposed to last 100 taks (42 Earth minutes) but from the start to the end of the tournament starts on episode 97 and ends on episode 131, so true Dragon Ball fashion.

This is part 1 of a 2 part post. This post I just covered some character and backstory and the next post will be all the major fights and events throughout the tournament.

Today’s question is, what is your least favorite anime/show and why?

Thank you for reading, and as always, have a great day!

Dragon Ball Super – Future Trunks arc

Dragon Ball Super is an anime that debuted in the summer of 2015, which is the squeal to the hit anime Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Super takes place in the 10-year time skip that happens between Goku killing Kid Buu with the spirit bomb and Goku fighting Uub (Majin Buu’s reincarnation).

The Future Trunks arc is the fourth of the five arcs that take place in this anime. This arc takes place right after the universe 6 tournament arc. At the very end of the final episode of the universe 6 tournament arc, after the end credits, where they put the next episode preview, they show a destroyed city, it’s raining, and a flash of lightning shows future Trunks. We haven’t seen Future Trunks since the end of the Cell arc from Dragon Ball Z. Trunks time travels to the past so we can get Goku and his dad, Vegeta to come to the future because the enemy of his timeline is killing everyone on earth, and his name is Goku Black, also known as “Black”.

This is the arc that gave me one of my top favorite villains in Dragon Ball. Goku Black is an amazing character. He brought us an evil Saiyan that fans wanted for years! He also mastered Super Saiyan (in the manga) and created his own level being Super Saiyan Rosé. This arc also gave some amazing moments (*SPOILERS*) like bringing Future Trucks into Super, it gave us Goku Black and Zamasu, a father/son Galik Gun from Trunks and Vegeta. An amazing rage moment from Goku where he fights seriously. It also brought us another throwback moments when they brought back the potara earrings and gave us Vegeto, and also Super Saiyan Blue Vegeto.

I absolutely love this arc, this is my second favorite arc in all of Dragon Ball Super. The animation and art for this whole arc was amazing, it was great to see Future Trunks again and get the 3 Saiyans fighting together, not to mention all the fantastic moments through this arc, and all the new moves and attacks were stunning.

I would highly recommend this arc to any Dragon Ball fan. The art and animation are an 8/10 and the story itself is an 8/10. I have to give this arc an 8/10.

My question for today is an old school kind of question. If you could have any power which power would you pick? Healing factor? Have Ki/Chakra/Nen? Flight? Let me know!

And as always, have a great day!
